Using data from the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey earthquake watch, students will use coordinates to search through Google , then Google Maps to locate an earthquake worldwide, post the location and magnitude on the earthquake on the Student Responses Page.

What to do????

Step #1 Go to Click here for latest data.....QED List - Last 30 Days

Step #2 Click open another tab and go here to Google

Step#3 Select a line of data from QED list you are going to research. The lines of data look like this...

  • Date,TimeUTC,Latitude,Longitude,Magnitude,Depth

  • 2011/03/20,09:50:03.5,37.774,141.778,4.5, 39

Step #4 Use latitude and longitude in Google to find where earthquake was, try see what country it was closest...be as specific as you can.

Step #5 Go to Student Responses Page, find your homeroom, enter

  • FIRST NAME. HR LOCATION MAGNITUDE ANY COMMENT

  • Joe.201. Near Fukushima, Japan 4.5 Half as strong as the March 12th earthquake.
